Now that I have very recently become aware of Ebi-Ten due to their once-per-monthly deal Monthly (Next date: July 2025 TBA 5pm) $10 Katsu Curry (show IG post to staff; limit 3)

… I just saw a new Instagram reel post of theirs (see below), regarding their weekday lunch specials (I’m not sure how long these deals have been running for, perhaps other RFDers can share their experiences?). No end date specified.

Price point wise, these seem reasonably affordable, so I figured I’d post it here for metro Vancouver-based (or visiting) RFDers to take note of.

Warning: I have never heard of OASLOA but googling gets a few hits. Don’t count on firmware updates. You can return it to Amazon within 30 days.

This is the cheapest that I’ve noticed a system with a processor more powerful than than an Intel N150.
The processor is a Ryzen 5 7430U which is essentially a R5 5625U https://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Ryzen … 966.0.html
It has a very comfortable amount of RAM and SSD.
It comes with “DOS”: no Windows license. Linux is free and Windows is inexpensive.

I’m not going to buy one: I’ve already got more than enough mini-PCs.

This week No Frills in Ontario has iceberg lettuce on sale for $1 which is a great price. But if you are like me, you may have ignored it because their flyer says product of USA . Then a friend told me he saw it at his local store and it was Product of Quebec. So I checked at my local No Frills and while the sign said product of USA, the packaging said either Product of Quebec or Product of Canada (Alberta). I thought I would let people know because I would never have checked if my friend hadn’t told. I just assumed it came from the US. Now I can have tacos with lettuce again.

The device is sold by Mega PC Mall on both Walmart and Bestbuy marketplaces, although the latter has restrictions on shipping destinations, and Mega PC Mall never filled the specs in the Bestbuy database, so you won’t find it by filtering for specs.

I’ve bought one and can report that it is actually a little lighter than the advertised 990 g, My kitchen scale measures 972 g.

Mine was manufactured in June of 2023. So the CPU is a 13th generation Intel i5. Only 8 GB RAM, but a 16:10 screen with anti-glare.

I immediately upgraded the OS to Linux Mint and everything seems to be supported out of the box.

Currently 3 are left. Shipping was faster than advertised.
