For many people, the ability to sideload apps is a major advantage over platforms like Roku, the latest Firestick HD or Select which are much more locked down. Only the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K Max, and Fire TV Cube all run Amazon’s Fire TV operating system and support installing apps outside the Amazon Appstore.
As a fellow deal hunter, I’d say the Fire TV devices are at their best when bought on sale, not at Amazon’s inflated “regular” prices.
