Yeah, an RTX 5050 laptop for 1300 cad is just what rammageddon prices have done to gaming laptops, even entry level ones. Still, compared to it’s competitors the HP victus 15 is a decent gaming laptop if treated with care and will still do what 90% of gamers need.
For some reason the loq 15 2025 and 2026 refresh have been heavily overpriced in the Canadian market as of recent and while there are decent tuf f16 2025 deals, those are relegated to rtx 5060 and above. Entry level tufs (rtx 4050, 5050) are in a tough spot to justify a purchase.

The price may seem high but there still are noticeable compromises:
– The build quality is mediocre (an attribute to any gaming laptop besides the 2025 loq or tuff)
-The screen is quite poor, for gaming it’s fine but not something for creative work with a need for highly accurate colours
-The 5050 isn’t full powered**
**The RTX 5050 (80W GPU) isn’t a full powered one which is kind of strange as it ships with a 200W power brick. This is excessive considering the lower wattage 5050 and efficient ryzen AI chip, specs like these you would find in thin and light gaming laptops but the 200W power brick contradicts that. A 180 would’ve made more sense but this is just a nitpick.
Either way this device has an average thickness and an average weight for a gaming laptop including the 200W brick.
Buy this laptop if you’re just someone who wants to play games. Simple as that. The 80W 5050 is still a more than capable 1080p card that will rock through any game on the market but of course, some games may need their settings lowered or use DLSS super resolution.
It’s also something to not be treated as a toy, it is a mostly a plastic device that has a history of wobbly/weak screen hinges. Treat it well and it will probably serve you enough.
Its cooling is more than adequate at cooling the 80w 5050 (just another gripe at the 5050 being 80w for no reason) so sustained gaming shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
It has mediocre upgradability, 2 ram slots but only 1 ssd slot (for most configs) so you have to outright replace that 512gb ssd. At least it does come with 16gb dual channel ram so that’s good enough for games.
Buy this laptop if your on a budget (still a high price I know) and just want to play and enjoy games without much lag. This laptop scratches all the checkboxes of a usable modern device that should last a long time within reason.
1300 Cad is a lot but even then don’t expect too much out of this device. It is a workable and decent machine and unfortunately 1300 CAD is about as good as I could find in the mainstream market.
PS: Saw a reviewer say the TGP is 50W, I believe they are incorrect as its shipped with a 200W power brick. The cooling on the laptop is more than adequate for 80W (like the victus 5060 variant) so 50W is absurd.
