I picked one up today, going to play around with it once it’s charged. Comparatively it’s $211 on Amazon, and it launched at USD$179 so this price is not bad. My friend bought it at launch at Costco for $200, and this sale is on until December 28th if you can find stock. Online seems to still be an option. Costco Vaughan had a few in an electronics aisle which an employee has to direct me to, not much there.
I already know comments will probably include “get an Ambernic/Ayaneo/TrimUI” etc etc etc. Yes I have other handhelds, they’re all great, but I got this one because of the unique control scheme (trackball/spinner/gamepad) and large screen, so this is in a slightly different tier compared to what you can already get in the flooded retro handheld market. That’s not to say that this doesn’t have a lot of drawbacks. Simply put, it really needs CFW support to unlock it because right now it’s pretty limited in its support. But I’m confident that’s coming soon, people are already putzing around with it for that purpose (check the AtariAge forums). And quite honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if the price dropped further, I don’t know how many people will see this is a good deal at this price point. I’ll definitely be watching for a price drop to see if I can get the difference back from Costco…
I know some RFDers are into this sort of product, just putting this out there!
