I called Telus loyalty this evening (at this number: 1-800-463-3919) after seeing my plan increase by $5/month and asked them if they had any comparable plans to Rogers’ current offering here: https://caaxrogers.ca/phones/byod (CA/US/MX 175GB for $35/month after various base plan credits). I mentioned I’d prefer to stay with Telus because in principle, I’m firmly against the Rogers $80 bs activation fee that’s credited back at $5/month over 16 months.
Agent came back with the following offer:
- $55.00: CA/US/MX talk, text, data @ 150GB, 5G+ (up to 2gbps) (screenshot attached)
- -$10.00: Pre-authorized bank credit
- -$20.00: Credit for 12 months*
= $25/month for 12 months.
*Note: With regard to the $20.00/month for 12 months, the agent advised that their system offered the following three options:
- $10.00/month for 24 months
- $15.00/month for 18 months, OR
- $20.00/month for 12 months
Given this, I choose the 12-month option.
Also included with the plan:
- $0.00/month: Visual Voicemail
- $0/00/month: 1000 minutes International Long Distance Add-on (Note: This is not the Telus 27 Intl LD add-on, but rather six countries: CHN, HK, IND, UK, BD, MEX)
Notes:
- I asked the agent if this plan was considered a Winback or loyalty plan, and they advised that while in my case it was as a result of loyalty – they advised that the plan was available to anyone who called in and referenced the Rogers CA/US/MX 175GB. To test this, I will be having a family member (who is currently with Rogers, and has never been with Telus) attempt to get the plan tonight and report back. In any event, YMMV.
- For those of you who subscribed to the Telus 40$/200GB CA-US plan last year, and also added the $0.00/month Data Tablet (CA-US) add-on (screenshot attached), this plan will remain accessible.
- There are two options for pre-authorized payment enrolment: Plaid (Third-party provider), or manual input (manually inputting your transit number, institution number, and account number). I encourage option 2, given that I am not sure if Plaid’s pre-authorized payment platform impacts terms/condition of your financial institution. In any event, you can still pay your monthly bill by credit card payment (which is what I will be doing via Rogers World Elite MasterCard) provided you enrol and pay before the pre-authorized payment date.
I will update the post following receipt of my bill to show the credit breakdown ($55.00, -$10.00/month pre-authorized payment credit, -$20.00/month credit for 12 months).
