ok, i combined the 2 Ryobi purchase get free tool deals to put a decent kit together for Christmas (bioth deals good till Jan 28 2026)

a good starter set would look like the below:
Batteries w/Free Tool – get the multi-tool (or angle grinder)
Drill/Driver w/Free Tool – get the sawzall

this will give you:
4 batteries: (2 – 1.5Ah 1 – 2Ah 1 – 4Ah)
2 chargers
circular saw
drill/driver
sawzall
multitool (or angle grinder)
carry bag

lots of things to wrap for extra surprises for your loved one (if that’s your thing)

last thread on this had some odd comments i’ll point a light on below:
the saw wil not cut fully through 2x lumber – yes it will, it cuts 1 11/16″ deep, 2x material is 1 8/16″ (though bevel cuts will not work on 2x)

lots of screwing means you need an impact driver – no, this drill/driver is 525 ft/lbs of torque (i’ve probably done over half a million screws in the last 10 years with drill/drivers at similar torque ratings)
if you are in a residential area, or even in your home, impacts are noise pollution and rude to your neighbors for a 3-block radius
if you plan on driving lag bolts or trex, then by all means pull out your impact, but you don’t need it for general framing/construction or decks

having the 4Ah will be important for multiple cuts with the circular, sawzall and angle grinder (the 2Ah will provide a few cuts as well)
