[Public Mobile] New $18, 1GB plan available to existing subscribers only (was available for ALL, now for $13/15 planholders only)

Public Mobile just released a new $18 plan this morning, which has the usual unlimited talk & text, plus 1GB of 4G data. It’s the first $18 plan from PM, and the cheapest a 1GB plan has been (previously 1GB started at $25, then $20 or 19). It may be of interest to any existing Public Mobile customers.

In and of itself, it’s warm; definitely not hot. But I think it’s worthy of mention because it’s available to all existing subscribers (regardless of your current plan price point). This might be in error since, for the last year and bit, Public Mobile has been only showing plans that are about equal to or higher than your current plan, in an effort to push ARPU up. If you can live with 1 GB data, it could be a good interim plan to ensure other good plans are visible when they show up later (e.g. Black Friday). In other words, lets say you’re on a $34 plan now… as such you cannot see the $23 or $20 or $27 plans that are currently available (that someone on a $15 or $19 or $20 plan could see)… by switching to the $18 plan, you’ll be able to see the cheaper plans as they show up.

If you’re contemplating a switch, you might want to snag this one ASAP (you can schedule the change for an upcoming renewal to lock it in) in case PM flips the switch to hide it from higher-priced plans. If you schedule it and it hasn’t switched, you can always change your mind and cancel the pending change prior to the renewal date.

EDIT: As of about 10AM MDT, PM has changed this plan to only show up if you’re on a plan lower than $18, so effectively this only lasted a few hours, where ALL existing customers could get it. Congratulations to anyone who locked in the plan through an immediate or scheduled plan change. This confirms it was released in error to all plan-holders at the start of the day.
