What you lose without the IKEA Hub

While the devices will work for basic tasks (on/off, dimming, color, motion sensing), you will miss out on:

IKEA Home Smart App: You cannot use IKEA’s own app to manage the devices if they aren’t paired to an IKEA hub.

Firmware Updates: This is the biggest catch. Currently, Matter devices usually receive firmware updates through their “native” hub. If there is a bug or a new feature for an IKEA bulb, your Apple or Google hub might not be able to update it yet.

Advanced Features: Some specific IKEA settings (like “power-on behavior” or specific binding between remotes and bulbs) might not be exposed in third-party apps.
