[Dollarama] Dollarama: Outdoor/BBQ, gardening, office, auto

Swung by Dollarama yesterday to see what they had and too my surprise found a fishing rod among other stuff for enjoying the outdoors that I haven’t seen before.

Just a reminder this week starting on Sunday to Sunday is Licence Free Fishing Week in Ontario.

What that means is you don’t need a licence to fish all week. There is a tackle share program that loans fishing gear if you sign up to that program or better yet buy your own.

When I noticed the fishing rod at dollarama I was reminded of the fishing reels I have seen in the stores before. I wasn’t sure if the reels were pre-spooled with line so got some 10lb test and 25lb test to try it out. The 25lb is braided so it is about the diameter of the 10lb mono.

If you are going with dollarama fishing setup maybe it is best to go with 8lb test line if you are buying extra line. 8lbs will catch most things and for the experienced people the dollarama swtup could be treated as a good challenge much like using a pen fishing rod and feathering the drag for a long fight without snapping the rod or line.

A note about the reel. It does have drag dial and two-way direction switch. I didn’t find any single plain fishing hooks at the store I was passing by but did find some small lures with I didn’t get but I did see some Yakamoto soft lures.

For those that aren’t into fishing I found a raised bed setup if anyone is thinking of starting a raised bed garden (with the food prices lots of people are making edible food gardens and there is lots of time to grow right now. SO GET GROWING ALREADY :) ). They also have squirrel/pest ground spikes that can be laid on the ground to prevent pests from walking to dig up your garden. The spikes are flexible enough IIRC so that you could wrap around a 5gal bucket if you are doing container gardening.

For the office and auto folks, I was surprised to see compressed air cans there. Handy to have for cleaning electronics or gassing off Rex sensors for fun 😆. With the sun out there I found some pull down car shades to help cut down on the driver sunburns which is a real issue as I have read about driver side skin cancer.

Oh yes, almost forgot was stunned to see BBQ charcoal starters as well. Maybe your store has charcoal as I remember seeing bags of charcoal in the stores a couple years ago when I was there.

EDIT:

Having problems uploading photos. All photos showing the red triangle 🔺 for some reason. Maybe RFD updating or something. Will try uploading again shortly
